Last month, the Kurk Homes team had the profound honor of attending the Home Dedication Ceremony for U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant (Ret.) Eddie Wright and his daughter in Montgomery, Texas.
This day marked far more than the completion of a home. It was a moment to honor extraordinary service, reflect on resilience in the face of adversity, and celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for a remarkable family.
Eddie Wright’s story is one of courage, leadership, and selfless service. While deployed to Fallujah in 2004 with the U.S. Marine Corps, Eddie was severely wounded when his unit was ambushed during combat operations. Despite sustaining life‑altering injuries, he remained calm and focused, helping direct fellow Marines to safety during the attack. His actions ultimately saved lives.
Following a long and challenging recovery, Eddie’s strength and determination continued to define his path forward. His journey stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by so many service members and the resilience required long after their service ends.
Kurk Homes is deeply honored to design and build Eddie’s custom smart home for him and his daughter. The home was thoughtfully designed to support independence, comfort, and everyday living.
Every aspect of the home was approached with intention, focusing on accessibility, functionality, and long‑term livability. More than a structure, the home represents stability, dignity, and a place where Eddie and his daughter can continue building memories together.
For our team, this project reflected the true purpose of homebuilding, creating spaces that support life, family, and the future.
This home dedication was made possible through the Gary Sinise Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving wounded veterans, first responders, and their families through housing, relief, and support programs.
Through its custom homebuilding initiatives, the foundation provides specially adapted smart homes that empower heroes to regain independence and improve quality of life. Eddie’s home is a powerful example of that mission in action. This is our second home, designed and built with the Gary Sinise Foundation for a wounded veteran, following the specially adapted smart home created for U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jay Fondren.
The ceremony brought together family, supporters, and community members to recognize Eddie’s service and celebrate a meaningful milestone. Surrounded by gratitude and reflection, the day served as a reminder that behind every uniform is a family, a story, and a future worth honoring.
At Kurk Homes, we believe homes are more than walls and roofs. They are places where healing happens, families grow, and new beginnings take shape.
We are grateful for the opportunity to play a role in Eddie Wright’s journey and to stand alongside the Gary Sinise Foundation, honoring those who have given so much in service to our country.
